Color Review: "Voyage to Atlantis" by The Isley Brothers

In honor of last night’s Verzuz battle between two luminary powerhouses, we thought to honor a solemnly celebrated classic in “Voyage to Atlantis” (VTA) by The Isley Brothers. Conversations commemorating the Isley Brothers’ music centers “Between the Sheets”, “For the Love of You”, and “Footsteps in the Dark”, but there’s something more ethereal about VTA that distinguishes it’s difference in their catalog. Opening with electric emotion, this tracks futuristic elements become ominous, and wrap their chords around the deepest pit of infatuation in all of us.

Love and its expression are always associated with red, but in this instance love is reassurance backed by invitation, which is closer to orange. However, the sublime instrumentation introduces a celestial element, making this invitation an offer of grandeur. Best described by this Patina Indigo, VTA is an all encompassing track of yearning, earning, and preserving.

Patina refers to the oxidation (or the visible aging) of materials, but the beauty of the blue-green corrosion is that it provides a protective barrier against the otherwise destructive red rust. Similarly to love being associated with red, it’s more vulnerable and susceptible to damage, but here, love is protected by doubtless commitment in “always” coming “back to you.” On the other end, indigo is the security of the color spectrum, housing the devotion of blue, and the divinity of violet (red + blue), perfectly combining elements of passion, allegiance, and futurism.

In meditation this hue is effective for deep self reflection, and life audits. The high saturation disrupts your average mental pace, and the deep value slows down your thoughts for deliberate contemplation.

This hue will work best for music industries and design firms as it communicates creative freedom with an organizational approach.
