Color Review: “Lover’s Lane” by Lance Skiiiwalker
There’s a fine line between pleasing and corny that orchestral hip-hop production dances between. It can echo the legend of the genre’s recent past in the 90s; or remind us of those cheesy dance films where a poc (intentional) infuses hip-hop dances into their classical dance program to win X amount of dollars in the city’s largest dance competition. However, on “Lover’s Lane” from Lance Skiiiwalker’s 2016 release, Introverted Intuition, there’s more than enough room for both sides of the line. The formlessness of this track is best represented by this Blood Orange.
While the traditional drum and bass pull directly from the red overlays, the orchestral elements are represented through the orange notes, beneath the surface. As a representation of tastefully combining elements at two different placements in the ears, eyes, and minds of humanity, this song and color carefully blend different elements seamlessly to establish innovation. Blood Orange is one of the most difficult hues to find solo, for orange is as close to red as grey is to silver, but when mixed properly the color they produce is rare, unique, and healing. Orange dulls the intense qualities in red, and allows the positive elements to shine independently without overstimulation. This is a hue ideal for lengthy red color therapy.
Scenically, this is a red that will work well on cars, in electronic product design, and marketing products as it houses all attention grabbing and fast acting qualities. In relation, this song will work well in cafeterias, on a lustful playlist, or on a night drive.
