London Fashion Week: Mens FW '17 [Day One]

London Menswear Fashion Week, and thus, Menswear Fashion Month is already shaking up while simultaneously sustaining the androgynous direction of luxury menswear. London has made its mark in men's fashion most populously by honoring classic menswear silhouettes and garments, but suggesting contemporarily classic renditions of these garments and redefining the man's silhouette. This year, the inaugural runway shows represent London menswear respectfully with their own twists. Craig Green played with multiple muted hues and invented a few silhouettes, keeping it consistent with his previous shows. Moody greens, blues, and a peach find themselves in garments that exists opposite of its perceived function. The mazarine blue wrap-rain coat is a very masculine hue with a typically elongated women's silhouette and a cinched waist detail. In the same token, the diet peach ensemble with a black furled sash is normalized for women, but made its way into menswear over the Summer of 2016 and continues its legacy in this masculine design. Top Man continues the trend of an androgynous color story with nylon neon puffer sweatsuits and a matte black trench. Phoebe English maintains different levels of utilitarian silhouettes in their new collection as the most traditionally masculine collection shown here. The textile selection is very firm, simple and intelligently constructed which makes for a very sophisticatedly radical look. MAN never fails to impress by pushing boundaries not only in menswear but masculinity in general as one of the most androgynous luxury brands to exist. With a more avant-garde approach, MAN designers are urbane in their approach to design with awkward and off-put missing pieces in some garments, and exaggeration in others. With a palette that stretches across the spectrum, there is something for every man or woman in this collection. Day one was so exciting to follow, I'm just excited for the rest of the week because it can only get better.
