Mix Monday's: Dylan The Gypsy's Influx

For this edition of Mix Monday to get you pumped for the business week, we decided to keep it rather familiar with a mix making many waves. This trap, bounce, vogue, og mix gives women the power to remorselessly shake their ass, and men the imagery of women doing so. The song selection is seamless on top of the dual message of women doing what men do, better than them. With cover art from her GLU NYC comrade, Darius Moreno, she creates a party wherever you're art. However, this mix wasn't enough for us so we decided to reach out and get the essential NYC nightlife DJ to answer some questions we needed answers to:

RYB: Tell the viewers a little bit about yourself.

DTG: I'm a dj/acting student at NYU. I'm originally from the suburbs of Washington, DC. I am the eldest of four and I love all things music, art, and culture related. I'm also a huge nerd.

RYB: So, what inspired both Pussy Power mixes?

DTG: I made the first one to let the world know that I was capable of djing since I had just started a few months prior. No one took me seriously so it was an attempt to pave my own way into the djing world and empower myself in the process. I made the second one to celebrate women's history month and wanted to continue on my journey to self discovery, exploration, and empowerment.

RYB: What are some spaces you see yourself occupying in the future?

DTG: Not telling anyone! I don't wanna jinx anything.

RYB: For aspiring professional DJ's, what are some tips you have to offer?

DTG: Don't let the word no stop you from pushing forward and reaching your goals. And if no one is giving you work, give yourself work! You have to believe in yourself before people can believe in you.

RYB: Does your background as an actress have a voice in your music career? Do they tie in together? Or did you break away from acting to pursue a career as a DJ?

DTG: Yes. I am very responsive to crowd energy and good at thinking on the spot from years of stage training and improv exercises from acting school. I still want to act, but in order for me to survive NYC I needed a stable second job that wouldn't interfere with my daytime schedule so I can allocate it to auditioning and dj at night. I am still extremely passionate about music and it will be a part of my life forever. Music and theatre are my two loves.

RYB: How important is color to your overall creativity?

DTG: Extremely important. The colors I choose to wear are a direct reflection of how I'm feeling, which often affects my dj sets as well.

RYB: What's your favorite color?

DTG: It changes a lot. My temporary favorite color is brown but my all time favorite color is light blue.
