“I could just be hyper-neurotic and hypersensitive”, says Rebecca Storm, a Montreal-based photographer affected by a condition called synesthesia. “Technically it's not yet an official condition, but I'm mostly familiar with associative synesthesia, where you react to one stimulus with a sensory pathway that's typically affected by different stimuli. The NY Times critics lead the weekend in art with black exhibitions:

"The fantasy of a secret, metaphysical knowledge suppressed by science and orthodox religion has inspired Western artists from Renaissance Neo-Platonists to the Paris Surrealists. Today, many artists still subscribe to mystical traditions like astrology, ritual magic and kabbalah. “Language of the Birds: Occult and Art,” an artistically uneven but intellectually fascinating exhibition at the 80WSE gallery at New York University, presents works by more than 60 Modern and contemporary artists influenced by those practices. Organized by Pam Grossman, a curator, writer and teacher of esoteric lore, the show takes its title from the myth of the Language of the Birds, also known as the Green Language, a divinely perfect means for communicating dangerously heretical ideas."
