NYFWM: The Blue's

In the second installment of the NYFWM FW color highlights, blue plays a versatile role through outerwear, streetwear and denim respectfully.

OUTERWEAR:

Outerwear is a given for the fall/winter show season, but this year limits were pushed, silhouettes were altered and textiles were manipulated for a new aesthetic. The challenge of menswear is the limit of garments, and consequently, where the beauty of menswear luxury rests. Jeremy Scott made way for faux, cartoon reminiscent design with Moschino, and Julien David used a medium denim hue with drawstring accents to bring streetwear into the mix. Virgil Abloh  (Off-White) stretched the silhouette of the coat further than the contemporary interpretation into a full neck to toe overcoat with unfinished tailoring aesthetics. KENZO was one of the only brands to present a spring favorite, powder blue, into the fall and winter seasons. Ami played it subtle with a midnight blue double-chest pocketed jacket, and my personal favorite, Versace gave us a metallic cobalt shearling coat. Each of these looks appeals to the every man from the top tier fashion executive to your favorite employee at Urban Outfitter's.

DENIM:

We can always look forward to denim being a part of any fashion week season, but this year designers decided to go with one or two denim looks, or none at all. Mihara Yushiro designed this tattered and layered look of a denim jacket with leather button-holes with long denim peacoat in true Japanese fashion. Public School never disappoints, and this season it appears that they played it safe, especially with this streetwear inspired look with a long denim button up anorak. The sweatsuit from MCQ is perfect for chill days, and overtime, looks as though the garments will age well. J.W Andersen not only achieved creating an impeccable lookbook for Loewe, but this denim jumpsuit reflects back to the Japanese-inspired menswear trend. This is plausible for inspiration for a denim on denim or denim layering fit for your casual days.

STREETWEAR:

Streetwear is slowly making a name for itself in the menswear luxury market, to some degree, that we don't even realize. These looks indistinguishably draw inspiration from streetwear brands, but present a luxury appeal in design and textile. Astrid Andersen brought overalls in what appears a denim-grain printed cotton. Initially, I saw a young man in the hood doing well for himself, but this can work for just about any man with a broad body-type. The styling puts this garment in the nostalgic-90s category, superb execution. A familiar look from The Red's, I wanted to explore this look from No. 21 through a different lens because the details are strongly present in the sodalite blue (19-3953 TCX) hue. The drawstring sleeves make this look effortlessly-effortless and easy to wear, one of those "throw on and run to the store" or a chill going shopping look. Jil Sander fools us with a midnight navy nylon jumpsuit, this is a blue you can wear with anything because it appears grey to the untrained eye. Lastly, Issey Miyake follows suit with the elongated silhouette of this mermaid blue and navy look. It's mention of a fall in California is rarely executed, and the feathered sweater pushes the Japanese design aesthetic even further.
