In the wake of Grammy nominations from yesterday, a few projects were snubbed for more popular nominations, and When I Get Home is personally at the forefront. As an album where innovation, experimentation, and self mastery collide, it’s hard to understand why this did not receive an album of the year nomination. However, “I’m A Witness” is a rumination in accessing a higher power within oneself, and a reclamation that no Grammy could validate or invalidate.

With this Moonlit Violet communicating the depth of introspection and self assessment apparent in the lyrics. The heavy chroma intensifies the spiritual insight and rebirth associated with the hue, as the minimal instrumentation does. The beat plays on the low’s while Solange sits on the high’s, illustrating a balance and understanding of one’s place through the spiritual journey.

Introspection is usually reserved for mornings, and nights, but this song will mix well with midday anxieties, as a reminder. “And I won’t stop/Til I get it right” is a mantra to carry throughout the day. Scenically, this song and color are perfect for learning centers, highly associated with evangelical businesses, and useful for soul/island food businesses rooted in authenticity. Also, this is a great color for books/novels about food, history, or education.
